This is one of the earliest novels of industrial alienation, tellingly linked to the plight of 19th-century women. It tells of the relationship between Margaret Hale, a girl from the old rural south, and John Thornton, a mill owner from the new industrial north.

This summer, I finally dove into 'North and South' as an audiobook while drawing, and I absolutely fell in love with it! The romance and strong personalities of the leads make it a captivating read, and I finished it in just a few days. Plus, the mini-series is definitely worth watching!
